Abraham J. Lopez II (Joseph Lopez), AKA: Gumby and Centrestage, was born October 5, 1983 in Midland, TX. He moved to the DFW area when he was 5. Joseph started dancing at the young age of 8, copying and learning every move of the great Michael Jackson which he later would perform for his Elementary Talent Show. In middle school years, he learned “BREAK DANCING” and he decided he would break dance through his middle school years all the way into his 9th grade year. The rest of his years in high school he concentrated on a certain part of break dancing known as “POP-LOCKING”. He then performed in various talent shows throughout the city and high schools. After high school, Joseph was invited to a restaurant/club where there was salsa dancing, at this point he fell in love with the dance and started a new passion of his.
Joseph eventually joined a salsa team known as Rumba y Poema where he reunited and fell in love with the beautiful Luisana Lopez (they have known each other since high school) and was directed by Salvador Urena. After that, Joseph went around the state performing with the team and eventually joined other teamsand did the same.Couple years later, Joseph was introduced to another style of dancing known as Mambo (Salsa on2) and shortly after, he trained under very talented instructor in his new found passion.
In 2010, Joseph became a director for a high school Mambo dance team. The team was called New Generation and performed at the Puerto Rican Salsa Congress where they received a standing ovation. New Generation performed a couple of times around the DFW area under the artistic direction of Joseph and Luisana Lopez. In the end, Joseph didn’t do it all by himself. He couldn’t do it all without the woman he fell in love with, Luisana Lopez.
